Ten Reason that Support Why We Need an Additional Branch in Prince George's County

Presentation to the Maryland State Conference

March 1, 2008

1. There has been tremendous growth in the County over the past 30 years. Today we have over 850,000 residents of which 600,000 are black, and there is only one NAACP Branch to serve us.

2. With the addition of another branch, we can reach more people and grow the membership. For example, Baltimore County has three branches.

3. Another branch provides an opportunity to support this ground swell of people who are excited about getting involved.

4. An additional branch can help to bridge the gap and engage our younger generation.

5. An additional branch is needed to help mobilize forces and quickly address issues as they arise.

6. Another branch is needed that is unafraid to address controversial issues.

7. An additional branch creates competition and encourages us all to be more responsive.

8. An additional branch will ensure the get-out-the-vote campaigns are successful.

9. We will join forces with other branches on common goals and issues in support of the NAACP mission.

10. An additional branch will work to ensure the political, educational, social and economic equality of rights of all persons and to eliminate racial hatred and racial discrimination.
