Next Steps on Road to New Branch
We invite all members, prospective members and others to attend our next gathering at the WOW Wingery in Bowie – Wednesday, June 18 at 7:00pm
We invite all members to plan on attending the annual NAACP convention in Cincinnati, OH from July 12-17. Visit the NAACP web site for more information: www.naacp.org
We plan to be on the July Board Meeting agenda where the Committee on Membership and Units will make a decision about the establishment of our new branch.
We would like everyone to read the following in reference to the NAACP Constitution and By-laws:
According to the by-laws Article III, section 3b which deals with charter eligibility criteria for branches “Prospective branches must be comprised of no fewer than (100) adult members. The jurisdictional boundaries of a prospective branch shall not conflict with the boundaries of any existing branch”.
We submitted our application and proposal back in January, we exceeded the membership number needed to start a new branch, provided a boundary map and how an additional branch could benefit Prince George’s County
According to the constitution under Article VIII, section 8a (2), the Board Committee on Membership and Units shall make recommendations to the Board of Directors on the granting of charters for new units of the Association.
In closing, we ask that you have an open mind, the courage and the vision to stand with us as we collectively work to eliminate racial discrimination and disparities in this County.
